About the Department

Established in 1996 with the objective of serving the laser and optics industry, the Master’s program in Physics was initiated, focusing on key areas such as Laser Technology, Fiber Optics & Optical Communications, and Materials Science. Presently, the department offers a Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics-M.Sc. (Physics) (3+2 Years) program, as well as postgraduate M.Sc. (Physics) (2 Years) courses specializing in Condensed Matter Physics, Photonics, Materials Science, and Nuclear Physics. The department boasts a dedicated and dynamic faculty covering a wide spectrum of fields including Photonics, Optical Communication, Laser Physics, Non-linear Optics, Physics of Nano-materials, Thin Films, Glass and Ceramics, Solar Cell and Renewable Energy, Radiation Physics, Nuclear Physics, and Theoretical Physics. Notably, the department has secured significant research grants under prestigious schemes such as UGC-SAP (twice), DST-FIST (Thrice), and DRDO. The department successfully organised International Conference on Advances in Optics and Photonics (ICAOP-2017) (XLI Conference of the Optical Society of India) in November 2017, followed by the 63^rd DAE Solid State Physics Symposium in December 2018.

About the University

Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar is a State University established on October 20, 1995 by an Act of the Legislature of the State of Haryana to facilitate and promote studies and research in emerging areas of higher education with a focus on new frontiers of technology, pharmacy, environmental studies, non-conventional sources energy and management studies and also to achieve excellence in these and connected fields. It was formally inaugurated on November 1, 1995. It is named after Guru Jambheshwar Ji Maharaj, a saint environmentalist of 15th century.
